Hagar Peeters Opens 2021 Inaugural Event for NIAS

Where does poetry start? What do Resistance and Science share in common?

In her opening remarks, author Hagar Peeters introduces us to the idea that out of curiosity, out of dissatisfaction and discomfort, some of the greatest human achievements are born. The inspiration of the scientist, of the activist, and of the poet all resound through history from these critical openings. Peeters was selected to present her work as part of “50 Years of Academic Freedom,” the inaugural event for the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS), September 8, 2021.

Peeters was awarded a scholarship to be writer-in-residency at NIAS by the Dutch Foundation for Literature and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
