Erick Meyenberg to represent Mexico at the 2024 Venice Biennale

DoppelHouse congratulates author and artist Erick Meyenberg for representing Mexico at this year’s 60th Anniversary Venice Biennale! Meyenberg’s video installation, Nos marchábamos, regresábamos siempre (We were leaving, we were always coming back) focuses on the topic of asylum, migration, and the way Mexico has welcomed refugees for many decades, from the Russian Revolution and World War II, to current economic and security crises in Central America. His four-channel video installation will play in the Mexico Pavilion from April 20 to November 24, 2024.

Even When Fall Is Here, his 2020 bilingual collaboration with Ruth Estévez weaves together histories of gardens and gardeners in literature with several years of his observations, research, video recordings, and paintings based on logbooks kept by gardener and friend Chris Shea. This collectible edition is fully illustrated in color and features several inserts.

Interdisciplinary artist Erick Meyenberg (Mexico City, 1980), of German and Lebanese descent, creates immersive artworks that invite the viewer to relate with their bodies to diverse concepts that problematize identity, history, genre or present reality. His work is found in some of the most important institutions of contemporary art, including the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC, UNAM), the Tamayo Museum (Inbal), the Amparo Museum, the Fundación Telefónica de México and the Benetton Foundation Italy.
