Coco Schumann’s story provides the valuable perspective of a German Jew who returned to Berlin after the war and thrived, though he did leave the country for several years in the 1950s because of a resurgence of Nazi sentiments. It’s important to remember that even when wars are over, factions remain and prejudices can fester.
